England Women held their nerve in a penalty shoot-out to beat the Netherlands and win the EuroHockey title on Sunday.
It is the first time the women's England team have achieved success in the competition for 24 years.
A day after the men's side were outshone in the , Maddie Hinch performed the heroics in goal at the Olympic Park in London.
Sh made a number of stunning saves in normal time, before staying cool in the dramatic finale to shut out three Dutch penalties to steer her team home 3-1 on penalty shots after the match ended 2-2.
It was a brilliant fight back from the English after Caia van Maasakker scored twice to put the world and Olympic champions in cruise-control.
England roared back with two goals in the final quarter thanks to the efforts of Sophie Bray and Lily Owsley to send the game into the shoot-out.
A delighted Hinch said: "That's impossible! Literally, the best, best feeling in the world and God do we deserve it.
"We've had some lows but this has been one hell of a summer and this has been coming."
"I'm just in a state of shock. I don't know what to say. It just shows the level of belief in our team at the moment to come from two goals down, to say 'we're not giving up on this' and that's exactly what we did."
2013 winners Germany had to settle for bronze with a 5-1 success over Spain while Scotland avoided relegation to European hockey's second tier after a 2-0 win over Poland.
