Patrick Kane grabs assist to extend points streak to 26 games

Patrick Kane extended his points streak to 26 games as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-0.

The winger put up a secondary assist on Duncan Keith's opening goal in the first period at United Center for his 40th point since October 17 and 46th in total this season.

Kane's streak is the longest in the NHL since 1992-93 when Mats Sundin scored a point in 30 successive games for the Quebec Nordiques.

He is now just past halfway in his unlikely chase for the all-time record, a 51-game run set by the sport's greatest scorer, Wayne Gretzky, in the 1983-84 season for the Edmonton Oilers.

"I passed it and it went in 10 or 15 seconds later," Kane said. "I actually didn't know I got an assist until I heard them announce it. I was hoping they didn't get it wrong and then maybe they've got to call it back."

The rest of the game provided Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford with the chance to put up another masterclass as he secured a second successive shutout victory.

Crawford has conceded only two goals in his last four games, during which he has faced 123 shots, and Sunday night saw him claim a 15th win of the season.

Chicago retained their 1-0 lead until midway through the third period when Dennis Rasmussen scored their second, with Andrew Shaw and Brandon Mashinter adding further goals in the last minute.
